This is a sad malady of the ages...the past, the present, and (unfortunately), the future. Sometimes, competition is too fierce, the markets change, the shadow of a corporate giant looms, or the world just doesn't need another widget.
This is not a pretty picture...stark, desolate, abandoned...a modern-age ruin. This is but one building of a business that employed hundreds...just a few, short years ago. Living the dream started here, for some. The demolition process doesn't take long; this dismantling of brick, and mortar...this dismantling of lives.
I hope this was just a stepping stone for some, along a path to bigger, better, and brighter. Decisions made in the board room, are made with tunnel vision...necessarily so. If the focus isn't on the dark, swirling middle of this vortex, the faceless "debris" on the periphery, might overwhelm. Bitterness taints, and bitter was inevitable here. I hope the taste didn't linger...for the faceless.
I hope those who parked their cars in this overgrown lot, have found what they wanted. I hope they accepted this small defeat, recognized their value, and landed on their feet. Complete this demolition, tear down the fence, remove the lock, and mow this sad reminder...of a parking lot, once full.
Attached is a haunting video of Cairo, IL...a town that has seen better days.
