"This was sooo much fun, dahling, we must get together again, soon." I overheard this at dinner recently, and started thinking....I don't come from the "Dahling...we must" level of sophistication. I've never called anyone "dahling" in my life, and if someone called me that, I'd have to wonder...have they recently dined with blue-haired sophisticates, or perhaps, taken in an old Zsa Zsa Gabor movie?
That's not to say we don't possess some level of sophistication...we do dine in fine restaurants...enjoy wine on the veranda...
and nosh on some wonderfully sophisticated-looking creations...
But, we love breakfast at a diner...LOVE breakfast at a diner...
And a good, old-fashioned pig roast....albeit, a rather elegant pig roast...
My parents had "Dahling" friends...they fascinated us all. He was in my dad's fraternity, and our families were close. I always wondered, though, couldn't they see that we weren't the "Dahling" type? Hugs were always exchanged, sweet sentiments shared, but the "Dahlings"...pretty much one-sided.
My family is more the "hail-fellow-well-met" type. We love a family get-together...with good food, and a lot of laughs. No pretense here, if someone takes your picture while you're enjoying a cookie, finishing that cookie trumps a fine photo op (at least for some of us, lol).
