Holding Sway

I took this photo well over a decade ago, while on an unplanned walk through a cemetery. We were visiting family in the area, and my planned walk was to be at a nearby park. However, there was a LOT of activity going on at the park, so I opted for a quiet walk through a beautiful cemetery. This is what I ran across. I wasn't terribly surprised, as I knew he was from the area, and was buried in the area. Still, though...my quiet walk was over, as all that I'd read about Joe McCarthy, filled my head. He definitely held sway, and to some, he has been vindicated...to others, he will always be controversial...as benign a word I could come up with, when thinking of Joe McCarthy.

I think a lot of us are mistaken, in thinking that WE, individually, hold sway. I don't delude myself (at all), and when writing blog posts, that's something I always keep in mind. That doesn't mean I don't hold strong opinions, but the world really doesn't give one, so I usually don't go there. I've had over 51,000 visits to my blog, so I guess that keeping it short, and fairly benign, is working. I've thought about delving deeper, and sometimes I do, but those are typically the posts I don't publish, but keep as "drafts." I'll leave the stirring up to those who really DO hold sway, and to those who THINK they do.

BTW, if you're among the 51,000, or so, I don't know who you are, but thanks for taking a little time to stop by. There's much more I'd love to write about, but we'll see. I do have some favorite posts, and one of my first posts...the very simple "And Her Life..." was written in a couple of minutes. It's had staying power because it still (somewhat) holds true. I also love "Please, Won't You Join Me for Breakfast," as it's different from the rest. "Going, Going, Gone" is a favorite, as well. Actually, all that you see, I guess are my favorites, as I've reverted back to "draft," the posts I wasn't sure of, and the "delvers." Anyway, my sincere "Many thanks"...to many. 🙂
