Rasputin Eyes

Recently, I saw a man with what I call "Rasputin eyes." Why am I writing about this you ask? Because I saw the same man in two different cities...couldn't miss him, with those eyes.  Grigori Rasputin...I had never heard of him until a few decades ago, when I was into reading Russian history. After surreptitiously staring for a bit, I steered clear. I know it's silly, but those eyes give me a chill...his story gives me a chill.

I had been reading of the fall of the Romanov Dynasty during the Russian Revolution, and that was my introduction to Rasputin...his life and his influence on Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, the wife of Nicholas Romanov. Of course, then I had to go out and buy a book on Rasputin...said book pictured above.

If you're interested in reading Russian history, there are probably better places to start, but I started with reading the tome..."Peter the Great." Loved that book, and I do recommend. His mother was Catherine the Great...there's also a great biography on Catherine, but I didn't finish it, for some reason...honestly, don't remember why.

History isn't always my first choice for reading, but now and then, I feel that need, I guess. As I said, I loved "Peter the Great," and also recommend the biography of Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov...more commonly known as Vladimir Lenin.

So, kind of an off-the-wall blogpost, but as I've said...my posts are, sometimes, written on a whim. I will say this one, though, was inspired by the man with those eyes...Rasputin eyes. His story is interesting...to say the least.
