An Odd Array

For purposes of this post, I moved my lovely stacks off the coffee table, and onto the sofa. I spread the books out, for better viewing of this subject, rather than leave them in said stacks. Admittedly, an odd array. I'm a stack of books person, though...here, there, and a lot of places. All neatly arranged, though, and (somehow) becoming a part of my décor. We have a small bookcase, but could use a much larger one, which I won't buy, as we're not at the stage in life where we're adding to (furniture, that is). I do add books, though.

This collection, is a part of what is neatly stacked on the coffee table and a nearby end table...a part of...key words. Anyway, what's pictured here is part of that "odd array" I spoke of. Descartes Philosophical Essays...picked that up in a bookstore in the Milwaukee airport years ago, on our way to Phoenix. It's one of those books you can pick up, read a little, maybe (eventually) forget what you've read, or try to fit it in, somewhere in your own philosophy. I love Descartes. Moving on...

I don't need the book on Existentialism to "survive," but parts of it are good to digest, now and then. In Search of History by Theodore White, is an old read...I read it decades ago. I brought it up from the bookcase to just take a gander at, now and then. Moving on...

24th and Glory...a great read on the lives of Omaha's many college and professional Black athletes, showcasing the impact that prejudice, bigotry, and the vile practice of Redlining, had on so very many lives. I used bold print for that...as we should never forget the negative impact this practice has had and, IMO, continues to have...on so many. The practice no longer exists, but the damage has been done. Deny if you will, but I'm not buying it.

Andrew Wyeth's People and Places... a book of some of his paintings...love this. My newest addition to a stack. His paintings speak to me...loudly. Overall, I find them melancholy, but they portray everyday life as it is, for many. Not a big fan of nudes, but there are a couple. Moving on...

One of my brothers bought me the book...Ranger Confidential. I'm enjoying it, but it's one of those books I pick up between other books that I pick up, and put down. Not unusual for me, to be reading several books at a time. It's a good read, though, if you're interested. True stories.

Frank Lloyd Wright American Master...considered by some, to be the greatest architect of all time. On my sales travels, I had occasion now and then, to drive by Taliesin (his home in Wisconsin, where he was from, and lived much of his life). Lucky me that it was a short-cut between two cities where I had accounts. Drove by Taliesin West in Phoenix when we were there with our daughter and her husband...have not toured either, though. Taliesin in Wisconsin has a tragic history...there are books about it, if you're interested.

The far upper left is a small coffee table book of photos by Susan Kaufman. Her photos of NYC are second to none, and I highly recommend. The other book...Alexander Hamilton, by Ron Chernow... I haven't finished, but how can one not recommend that. The interpretation of this book on Broadway has done pretty well, I'd say.

Anyway, I'm not a critic, but I do love books. Many, many more I could share...and maybe I will along the way. Cheers.

One of many mini stacks...
