Vancouver Business Meeting and Whale Watching

I had a business meeting in Vancouver, BC years ago, that was combined with a great few days of sight-seeing. The photo above, was taken from my hotel balcony, in downtown Vancouver, and it's one of maybe 3 photos I took of the trip. Three, Yep. Seriously. I came home with several photos, and this is the best. None of whale-watching in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, watching them make luscious-looking concoctions at LUSH, a walk through Stanley Park, our great meeting site,

shopping downtown, visiting Vancouver's Chinatown, etc. I've read that Chinatown is now a place to avoid, but haven't really delved much as to the why.

Anyway, the memory of whale watching, and when I was told we were in the Strait of Juan de Fuca waters, it rang no alarms. There wasn't much (if anything) that I remember, hearing about the Cascadia Subduction Zone back then. NOW, it's (somewhat) front and center, when talk shifts to volcanoes and earthquakes. Had I known then, what's predicted eventually, it wouldn't have alarmed me...what were the odds. My couple of hours in the Straits, and several days in Vancouver, were beautiful...no earthquakes.

My title for this post is probably misleading, but I didn't take any photos while watching for whales. Maybe we'll make another trip back, on our dime this time, and I'll take some pics. If you're looking for a beautiful getaway, I do recommend. Stunning city and scenery. I'd do some reading on the Cascadia Subduction Zone beforehand, though, and then make your decision.

BTW, we saw no whales.
