Abandoned and Forlorn

We ran a couple of errands today, then decided to take a run north...on a road we'd never been on before. Sometimes, that can be fun. Anyway, at our disposal were our iPhones, an atlas, and Waze. We could have consulted any of the three, but who doesn't love a challenge. You point your car in the right direction, and hope for the best. Nah...to be honest, I have an amazing sense of direction. Maybe it comes from having a 6 state territory, and putting hundreds of thousands of miles on company cars...who knows? But, it was only for a few minutes that we had no clue, and then we saw a familiar road.

On the way home, we chose another route. I love an off-the-beaten path ride every now and then, and we found another one! Not for a minute, though, did we not know where we were. We didn't expect this, though. I don't know the story here, but just seeing it, speaks volumes. This one-room school looks fairly well preserved, and one can almost imagine the excitement of the community as it was being built. A sad ending, though, that I'm sure, no one envisioned back in the day.

A few years ago, my sister and I, came upon this...

Definitely, a sad ending, here. I wrote a blogpost about this a while back, and to say I'm haunted by this is an exaggeration, but I find it profoundly sad. Again, not what anyone envisioned as they built their dream home. I hope that some carry happy memories of time spent here.

A little melancholy sets in this time of year, as our leaves have reached their colorful peak, and now crunch underfoot as we walk by. Our warm autumn temps, are now replaced by highs in mid-40's, and the only time the mid-40's sounds good, is early January. I'm not complaining...it just sounds like it. And, so it goes.
