My dad...visiting one of the locations he supervised, with a birthday cake surprise at his company's Duluth/Superior location. He was the area supervisor for Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota...back in the day. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University, was hired by this company, and stayed with them...until retirement. Loved his job. Loved it.
What brought me to this photo of him, was a memory that I had, after watching "The Imitation Game" movie last night, for the 2nd or 3rd time. Took me back to the computer in his office, in the late 60's. Not in this office, but in his "home" office in Wisconsin. Not sure what took me to his office that day, but it was the first time I saw his computer. It was massive...as computers were, I guess, in the late 60's. It was loud, it hummed, it sat in the middle of his office, and its presence was commanding. I felt like I should excuse myself, if I cut in front of it, or sat with my back to it. Dad was very nonchalant, and would give it a little tap now and then, as if they were best buddies. Really, I think it had to do paper, or something.😉
A memory brought back by that movie, and how we so take for granted our iPhones, our desktops, our laptops, our iPads...you get my drift. I'm lucky to be old enough to remember when this was all kind of new. (Did I just say "lucky to be old enough)??
Anyway, just wanted to go here, as I love this photo, the computer in his office memory, and my dad (of course).
