How kind of weird, that a transfer portal news article that I read recently in the Chicago Tribune, brought me this long, long, time ago memory. If we grew up in Nebraska, as "Go Big Red" fans...very likely we have LOTS of football memories. This one? My dad flew out to Colorado Springs, where his parents lived, and took our grandpa to the Nebraska/Air Force Academy game, for his 75th birthday. AI tells me that NE won that game...not unexpected, I guess.Grandpa's 75th Birthday
Reading the article in today's Tribune, also reminded me that I read recently, that Iowa State, had to decline a bowl invitation, due to "roster depletion," attributable (in part) to the transfer portal. Never a football powerhouse, so maybe this isn't surprising? Iowa State is where my dad went to college, and probably the reason I took note of Iowa State football news.
My dad and his siblings in the back row...dad is 2nd from the right...with (what looks like) the start of a beard. Grandma and Grandpa in front. I thought dad might still be in college here, but the year of the car tells me differently. I love this family photo...
No matter how one feels about the transfer portal, it's definitely having a huge impact on college football. For the record, I know I'm not contributing anything here, positive, negative, or informational regarding the portal...just a memory brought back by what I read, and how very much college football has changed from back in the day. Positives and negatives...
