As far back as I can remember, I've loved a canopy of trees. When I was young, I loved it for what it was...a beautiful, leafy, green ceiling of leaves...with bits of the sky poking through. Kind of like looking through a kaleidoscope...without having to turn the tube. It was almost magical...then, and now.
I find that I love things that take me back...to moments in life. I have a lot of them.😊 I'm reminded, often, of philosopher Soren Kierkegaard's famous quote...
"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards."
I believe I may be using it out of context, but it's easier than trying to come up with my own statement, that wouldn't come anywhere close to being more fitting...at least, in my interpretation. AND, there are probably quotes by others that would come closer, but I've always liked Kierkegaard, so we'll go with this.
Canopies of trees...they take me back to grandma's neighborhood in Sioux City. Grandma and grandpa lived in the Morningside area of the city, and it seemed like every neighborhood street sported a canopy. I spent a lot of time, when visiting, walking under these canopies...and marveling at the beauty. Truly...I did. A big part of that was, that the canopy didn't dictate to you, where you were...it took you where you wanted to go, where you wanted to be...or, where you've been...
