Heroes, to a one...for me

Have you ever heard Alfie Boe sing "Bring Him Home?" Aaron Tveit sings it beautifully, as well. Mostly, though, it's the song. It's always sung with emotion, as how can it not be? I think of that today, and really, anytime I think of war, a revolution, etc. You get my drift. It's foremost on my mind, when I think of war.

Our Independence Day, obviously, is a day we celebrate. It is a big deal. Not a one of us knows how our lives would be, after any war, or any conflict, that may have turned out differently. We can guess, we can imagine, but none of us know...for sure.

We can talk about it, we can ponder, or we can demonstrate about whatever one's choice might be for today's particular demonstration. That's the beauty of our country...we can demonstrate, we can disagree, we can go to lengths to make our dissatisfaction known.

And, sometimes, we remember those who fought, those who chose to fight for their country...not just in our war for independence, but every war where our troops have faced death, with courage and conviction. Veteran's Day and Memorial Day are days we've set aside to remember. For me, I didn't make the choice of our Independence Day to remember, it's just that day, for me.

And, the song..."Bring Him Home"...it's not about a war that we fought, but how does it not make you stop, at least to consider, all those who never came home. Often, the very young...unsure of where they wanted to go in life...what path they wanted to follow. They made a brave choice...one of absolute uncertainty. Imagine the courage it takes, for a young person, barely out of puberty, to decide that their country, their freedom, their fellow citizens, are worth the risk they may take, when voluntarily signing up to join our military. Heroes to a one, for me.
